Change in the Quellenhof resort

For centuries, the offer of the luxury resort Quellenhof in South Tyrol has been targeting a clientele that wants to enjoy its holiday around the clock by also experiencing the extensive sports and wellness offer as well as the varied cuisine. When redesigning one of the guest houses, Planstudio Pederiva, which specialises in tourist projects, used the aluminium shingle by PREFA for the design of a complex façade.

Fit for the future

St. Martin in the Passeier Valley is located in the Texelgruppe Nature Park north of Merano and is one of the most popular holiday destinations of South Tyrol. It is also the centre of the lives of Heinrich and Meggy Dorfer, the hoteliers who are already leading the resort in the third generation and continue to develop it. In doing so, they trust in both the innovative ideas and the contemporary architectural language of Planstudio Pederiva. The Forellenhof guest house, which was built in the 70s in the style of an alpine hotel with a large pitched roof, eventually became outdated and needed to be adapted to the future both in functional and architectural terms.

A lot of water on the roof

In addition to the modernised rooms, the Dorfer family wanted the new “Guesthouse F”, as it is called now, to also have a rooftop spa with a pool complex as well as a luxurious infinity chalet with an area of 445 m². “In order to create the necessary area, we removed the pitched roof and erected a flat roof over two levels. The spa on the lower level is available for all house guests. Displaced above it, you live in the chalet,” Thomas Pederiva says. “In order to avoid an overpowering effect, we visually combined and rounded off the two upper storeys with the nut brown façade. The structure of the small rhomboid additionally supports this idea.”

Hotel professionals

The team of Planstudio Pederiva largely works regionally and primarily devotes itself to the development of hotel facilities. The office is not as active in private residential housing, as the project schedule is completely different there. “In tourism, for instance, the building time is already preprogrammed because you cannot let the guests wait.” Together with his son Alex, Thomas Pederiva leads the studio in the third generation, and it was not the first time he was entrusted with a project at the Quellenhof resort. “Four years ago, we newly planned the hotel hall and afterwards, we got the request that the rooms and the roof area also needed to be renewed.” Since 1996, the executing tinsmith company Kind with the founder Gustav Kind has also performed tinsmith work in a large number of hotels.

High demand

Most guests come to South Tyrol time and again and are doing so more often. The easy accessibility and the largely untouched nature ensure that the hotels in South Tyrol reach their capacity. “Over the last 30 years, we have worked on many projects and used PREFA products both on façades and on roofs. This way, we significantly shaped the tourist landscape of South Tyrol,” Thomas Pederiva remarks with a smile.
